The Trade Register
The list of trades this register can name, each with a permanent identifier that is never reassigned and never deleted. A record names a trade by its identifier, never in free text — because a register whose central claim is that it can say which trades are disappearing cannot also be unable to say how many trades it holds.

Why it exists
Neither a closed list nor free text
A closed list would exclude precisely the trades this register exists to catch, since the trades nearest to disappearing are the ones no statistical series reaches. Free text destroys the countability the assessment depends on — in harvested material the defect is already measurable: 3,130 transmission records carry 1,946 distinct trade strings, so that Quilting and Quilt Making count as two trades and ninety-two separate strings name basketry.
A trade not listed here is proposed, not typed in. Free text goes to a proposal field and never into the trade field. Each proposal is adjudicated within thirty days as a new term or as a variant of an existing one, and the record names an identifier either way. Rejected proposals publish with their reasons, because whoever controls the list of trades controls who may be in the register, and a list that records only what it admitted cannot be audited.
An absent occupation code is a finding, not a blank. 25 of these 65 terms carry no federal code — 8 trades the assessment could not measure for that reason, ten practices named only in evidence, and seven that had been listed as domains of this register since its first draft and reach no assessed trade at all. That last group was invisible until the two lists were read against one another.
